Letters From Kailash
While traditional mail to and from Nepal may not always be the most reliable method of communication, thanks to the power of the internet, you never have to worry about missing an update from Kailash Home. Letters from Kailash, the official HYF blog, is here to share news, events, student spotlights, and more!
ALUMNI GUEST WRITER: A Memoir of a Special Home
My name is Jayang Wangdue Gurung. I hail from a tiny, isolated village in the Tibetan border regions of Dolpa, a district in the north Western region of Nepal that lacks broad access to schools, health services, and modern transportation. As a young child, I lived there with my young widowed mother and five siblings. I was told that my father had passed away a few months before my younger brother was born, leaving my mother destitute, and shortly after I was admitted to Kailash Home at age 7, my mother also passed away. Like many other children, Kailash became the only real home I’d ever known.
School Days Are Here Again
One of our top priorities in all of our projects is to provide all of our children with the best possible education from primary school up through vocational school or university. 🎓 It is our goal that each and every #KailashKid can go on to achieve whatever their dreams may be and in the process make their communities just a little bit better. 📚
Meet the Staff at Kailash Home
It’s an undeniable fact that without the support of our worldwide community, we would not be able to provide so fully for our Kailash Kids. But, the day to day love and care of our children falls to another part of our extended, global family, and today we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to some of them.

Dinner Is Served!
While students here in the United States are enjoying the last of their summer holiday, our Kailash Kids have started a brand new school year. With COVID cases high and vaccination numbers still low across Nepal though, this term is progressing completely virtually with remote learning only. Thanks to our experience over the past year however, we were ready and well equipped for this reality.

Vaccinated!
Excellent news from Nepal! Our senior students (all those 18+) as well as the staff at Kailash Home recently received their COVID vaccinations. Each of the staff and students received a single dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which means in just two weeks time they will be considered fully inoculated without the need for a secondary dose at this time. The staff at Kailash have reported that all the children are doing well following their vaccinations, and that no one suffered any adverse side effects.
The Latest from Kailash - Summer 2021
Over recent weeks, even as the United States and other developed nations push to vaccinate large swaths of their populations against COVID-19 and return to a semblance of normal, countries like Nepal have been gripped by a resurgence of the pandemic. But, not all of the news coming from Nepal is so grim! Our Kailash Kids are thriving and staying busy in this new lockdown.
Back to School
After over 53 weeks of school closures and cancelations, our Kailash Kids are finally heading back for in-person classes!
