New and Improved
You may remember that just a few short weeks ago we announced that we had not only met, but exceeded, the goal of our 2021 Annual Appeal! We are still feeling wonderfully overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, and we wanted to update you on exactly what we’ve already been able to do with those funds.
Our girls’ dormitory building was already slated to receive a bathroom upgrade, and the new shower facilities are finally finished! (pictured below left) Additionally in a first ever for Kailash, a brand new washer and dryer have been installed. (pictured below right)
Not only will this save staff hours of work hand washing and line drying all the girls’ clothes, we’ve also been told that the children are enamored of these machines and have been congregating to watch them run throughout the week.
All of our children are sleeping more soundly thanks to brand new mattresses and bedding in all of the dormitories. Those rooms that previously had old wooden bunk beds also saw a refresh with new, metal bed frames as well.
Finally thanks to the extra funding we received from our 2021 campaign, we have been able to make a number of other much needed updates to the outdoor quad area including new benches and a facelift for the athletic court. If you’ve been lucky enough to visit Kailash, then you have undoubtedly seen just how well used this outdoor courtyard area is — no matter the day or season, the athletic field is constantly home to basketball, soccer, dance practice, or music rehearsal.
Even as we celebrate these latest campus updates, our list of projects is never fully resolved. Up next we plan — with your help — to replace the roofing on both our boys’ and girls’ dormitories from the original slate to more durable metal material that will match the newest campus buildings. New property fencing for the whole of Kailash is also set to begin in the coming months, and eventually we plan to purchase an additional washer and dryer for the boys’ dormitory.
